Why Important Emails End Up in Spam or Promotions

You are expecting an email. You check your inbox. Nothing.

Then, hours or days later, you discover it sitting in Spam, Junk, or Promotions.

In this video, Modern Boomer Guides explains why legitimate emails sometimes end up in the wrong folder, how automated filtering systems decide where messages belong, and what you can do when an expected email appears to be missing.

Your Email Service Is Constantly Sorting

Email services process enormous numbers of messages, so they use automated systems to predict which emails belong in your main inbox, which look promotional, and which may be spam.

Most of the time, that sorting is helpful. But it is not perfect, and different email services may sort the same message differently.

If an expected email seems to be missing, search your entire mailbox and check folders or categories such as Spam, Junk, and Promotions.

If you find a legitimate message in the wrong place, marking it as “Not Spam,” moving it to the correct folder, or adding the sender to your contacts may help your email service handle similar messages more accurately in the future.

And remember: where an email appears is not proof that it is safe. A legitimate message can land in Spam, and a suspicious message can still reach your regular inbox.
